Datacenter

Servers are hosted in 60,000+ square foot secure data center in Dallas, Texas with on-premises DDoS protection of up to 20 Gbps.

Our BGP blend is a mix of Hurricane Electric, Cogent, and NTT which means low latency to every point in North America and overseas.

Servers

Cloud is based on enterprise grade hardware - Dells with Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPUs @3.00GHz and at least 192 GB or RAM. Servers are connected over three 10Gbps ports ... one of them is used for management, one for backups and one for connection to internet. All disks are SSD, even for storing backups.

Speaking of backups ... we take regular daily backups of all virtual machines to offline backup server. Furthermore, each virtual machine gets NFS or FTP backup space over local (private) network.

Storage

We use distributed storage on our cloud.

All disks on our cloud form a complex filesystem which is then mounted back on every hardware node so that all nodes see the exact same files. This gives us opportunity to boot virtual machines on any node without having to copy over large disk image files.

The storage backend works by splitting all disk image files into smaller chunks and then storing them in 3 copies on 3 different hardware nodes. It makes our storage highly redundand ... we can survive multiple server failures without data loss.

The storage is also very fast as we only use SSD disks.

High Availability

There are a lot of different interpretations of term "High Availability", so here is how it works on our cloud ...

We are constantly monitoring all hardware nodes on our cloud. In case that our monitoring script detects a failure of any hardware node, it will automatically boot all virtual machines that were running on failed node on other hardware nodes. The whole process takes 1-2 minutes.

Compare this to reinstalling and restoring hundreds of GBs from backups ...
